In an impressive feat, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has secured a place among the top 150 institutions for engineering in the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. These rankings, which consider parameters like research publications, academic reputation, employer reputation, and H-Index, hold significant importance in the academic community.

This marks the first time that IIT Bombay has entered the top 150, demonstrating a substantial improvement by climbing 23 places compared to the previous year.

Evaluation Criteria


The QS World University Rankings assess institutions based on various parameters. IIT Bombay's employer reputation played a vital role in its strong performance, achieving a global rank of 69. The institution also excelled in citation per faculty (73.1), academic reputation (55.5), employment outcome (47.4), sustainability (54.9), faculty-student ratio (18.9), international faculty (4.7), international research network (8.5), and international students (1.4). These scores, out of a maximum of 100 points, contributed to IIT Bombay's overall success.

This year's QS World University Rankings highlighted the increasing prominence of Indian universities. A total of 45 Indian institutions secured rankings, signifying an impressive 297% increase over the past nine years. The Chief of QS commended the consistent progress made by Indian universities, with a special mention of the prestigious IITs and IIS.
