Ensuring Uninterrupted Power Supply During VVIP Visits and Government Functions in Tamil Nadu

In light of recent events surrounding a power outage coinciding with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Chennai airport, the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited has issued crucial directives to maintain a continuous power supply during visits by VVIPs and significant government functions in the state.

The incident at Chennai airport sparked protests from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who alleged a security lapse on the part of the DMK government. However, officials from the electricity board clarified that the power disruption resulted from the disconnection of a high-tension (230KV) supply line from the grid.

To prevent similar occurrences in the future, the managing director has instructed the respective Systems Engineers (SEs)/Operation to obtain the complete schedule well in advance for any VVIP visit. These SEs/Operations personnel are required to conduct site inspections in coordination with officials from the Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO). Furthermore, it is their responsibility to ensure the uninterrupted availability of primary and backup power sources at the function venue and the VVIP's place of stay.

During the arrivals or departures of VVIPs from other states or countries, officials from the Operation and the Protection & Communication (P&C) wing must be present at the relevant feeding substations situated in airports or helipads.

For government functions, officials should be stationed at the primary or alternate feeding substations at the venue until the conclusion of the event. Additionally, a specialized team comprising Lines, Hotlines, and SF6 experts will be on standby at designated locations to promptly address any emergencies, if required.

The managing director has emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance among all electrical engineers, operators, and shift operators to avert any untoward incidents.

These measures aim to ensure a dependable and uninterrupted power supply during VVIP visits and government functions in Tamil Nadu, thereby eliminating potential disruptions or security vulnerabilities.
